I want to change and BECOME. One of my mantras when I am in “diet mode” is, “In a year from now I simply want to be healthy and active.” I’ve become healthy and active. In the pool this morning as I quietly went about my laps I came to realize we often pick CHANGE to GET SOMETHING. We want something and we are willing to DO THIS TO GET THAT (now). 5 yrs ago I sought a different course, to BECOME healthy and active.
Two different words with very different outcomes
When I think of making changes I’m in full-blown “bargaining mode.” I will DO THIS TO GET THAT! There is also a sense of “time limits.” (Are we there yet? Come on!)
When I think of growth, I’m in “submitted mode.” I will patiently comply with and grow in this area, however long it takes to have this aspect establish itself for the long-haul. (Breathe and just keep going.)
They are different postures and have different expectations.
One will QUIT in a heartbeat the other seeks to comply for the journey. One turns the clock on and the other doesn’t even think in terms of time. One stands with arms crossed, tapping the foot. The other down on one knee with gratitude.
I picked growth 5 yrs ago when I returned to keto. I’ve slowly grown and put my life back together.
