Both behaviors flood us with shame...
Guilt and Shame are the dynamic duo that come to literally take us out! Both cheating and over-eating provoke deep shame in me.
Shame reminds me that I am NOT good enough and WHO do I think I am? (Thank you Brene Brown for your insightful and excellent work on Shame and Vulnerability) Shame wisely points out my indiscretions and how can you argue with that?...It's right there that I slip off into the shame-closet, after a while I simply accepted shame and it's talk.
Shame encourages and celebrated ISOLATION
Once isolated, shame has a heyday!!! Telling me things I find myself all too willing to embrace. We basically give up HOPE in this isolation.
