I'm a Keto-lifestyler, I eat and live Keto. It fits like a seamless glove. Being in deep ketosis consistently has given me a daily sustainable energy that is noticeable by all. When I'm "in" ketosis I-AM-ON! So, bye-bye coffee!
The 2nd half of 2017 I've been OUT of ketosis more than I've been IN. My work load and opportunities have tripled since 2016 and I was riding a wave of high productivity that I needed to constantly supplement with caffeine to keep everything and myself included, rolling. (Ketosis allows me to tap into my fat storage where there is boundless energy awaiting).
As you have been reading in previous blogs, I've faced my keto-mistakes (not staying strict with macros) and I've learned my keto-lessons and am back in deep ketosis and my coffee is limited to 2 small cups first thing in the morning. I don't NEED it all day long at all. I've got sustainable energy back!
But to be truthful, it's really been like giving up an arm, I did so much around coffee. I went to work according to my Starbuck's need. I swung through the grocery for cold brew and cream, I'd check out other little spots. Iced coffee was my afternoon reward! What a void!
I needed all that caffeine because I was living BACK in a sugar burning metabolism again. On a Ketogenic approach the main objective is to switch to a fat-burning metabolism and unlock my stored fats and always be fueled. In sugar burning metabolism we need to take in food every 4 hrs or so or we bonk (not so in ketosis). Those foods were my down fall. The SAD is really sad and not my friend. CARBS CONTROL.
For years my diet had been "high carb and low energy" So, when I slipped out of ketosis this past 6 months, I used coffee for my substitute energy form to get through my opportunities.
Now that coffee is limited, i see how much everyone else is drinking, how long the lines at Starbucks are...(they are making a killing) and how tired everybody is all the time even with that cup of Starbucks in their hand.
