All good things must come to an end!
Fasting? A good thing? Really?
Yes! Fasting proved to be a great thing. It restored order, and gave me a break from food and food issues. Fasting took me back into ketosis and right before I broke the fast, I had a blood ketone reading of 4.8.
I woke up Saturday wanting to push through and make it a 7 day fast. "Wanting to PUSH" through...Indicator #1 "push?" Up until Saturday I only had to push through the first 48 hours. Saturday I woke to a growling stomach...so much noise and watery bowels. (Ketones 4.5 my highest ever.)
That didn't stop me!
I followed through on a ride on a spin bike and I wasn't all over energized at all! Had coffee with my child, and my stomach was growling to the point she recognized it. Come home a bit lethargic and lightened...had broth. Was hungry.
Then it was time to decide what to do...I felt good but not as good as earlier in the week. I was at peace with stopping. I knew I'd have to really press in to continue and that's where I called it!
I made some bacon to go into a chowder (no potatoes) and ate a few pieces while I cooked the chowder having spent time in the "Complete Guide to Fasting" by Dr. Jason Fung and Jimmy Moore and their tips and FAQ's...I took the step of a small snack to heart...half an hour later a small bowl of chowder and then another a bit later. That was it for the day. No more hunger, no more food...completely at peace.
This morning, (Sunday day7) I feel good. Reflecting on my experience. My ketones are 3.5, my stomach is growling and my bowels are watery. My weight is back up the 3lbs I lost...but I feel so good.
Fasting has been a Reset! I found it completely doable and I was out of ketosis. So the struggle was real in the first 48 hrs. Then Wed-Fri were excellent...and Saturday was different. I've returned to ketosis and THAT is what I sought to achieve.
Planning my next one!
